Appalatch’s aesthetic is rooted in heritage inspired designs with a nod towards purposeful, enduring & eclectic American style. Combined with trustworthy, sustainable fibers and techie outerwear engineering, our clothing is made for the modern-day Mr. & Ms. Indiana Jones." ~ Mariano deGuzman & Grace Gouin
Grace grew up on a small farm in the nation’s smallest state. She attended a Quaker school in Providence before heading out to Skidmore where she learned anthropological stuff while skipping classes to knit. Now an Ashevillian, Grace is swearing less like a Rhode Islander, embracing tempeh and going out of her way to pet wild animals. Kenosha, WI is exceptionally lovely – at least that is what Mariano keeps on telling us about his hometown. After learning about History, Science, Zoology and the such at Madison, he made his way to AmeriCorps, CARE and other really cool organizations busting inequality. Being a lover of economic development, he studied at Harvard before making his way to a town of 464 people in Western North Carolina in hopes of applying what he learned while not breaking things.
NORTH CAROLINA at "The Martha Stewart American Made Awards" | Appalatch Outdoor Apparel Company is a finalist for THE 2014 "MARTHA STEWART AMERICAN MADE AWARDS" | American Made spotlights the maker, supports the local, and celebrates the handmade. The program is made up of people and communities that have turned their passion for quality craftsmanship and well-designed goods into a way of life. For more than 20 years, Martha Stewart has celebrated this spirit of innovation in the pages of her magazines and on her television shows. Now, through American Made, Martha Stewart and the editors of Martha Stewart Living are spotlighting the next generation of great American makers: entrepreneurs, artisans, and small-business owners who are creating beautiful, inspiring, useful products; pioneering new industries; improving local communities; and changing the way we eat, shop, work, and live.
